Funding Process

The step-by-step process to receiving a funded device through insurance.

A high-tech AAC device is used during therapy sessions. Various communication software are modeled without expectation to allow the learner to interact with the device on their own terms. See the Trialing Communication Software page for more information.

Once the learner demonstrates an clear interest in a specific software, caregivers sign a HIPAA release form to authorize the sharing of client details with a high-tech AAC device manufacterer.

A formal AAC evaluation appointment is scheduled with the SLP to formalize the end of the trial period and collect data. An evaluation report and recommendations are written and submitted to the device manufacturer.

All documentation is collected (e.g., medical insurance cards, Certificate of Medical Necessity, evaluation report) is submitted to the device manufacturer and their insurance provider.

Insurance approves funding for the recommended device, software, and accessories. The high-tech AAC device is shipped to caregivers.

Training visits (up to 8 per year) are scheduled with caregivers to provide set-up, programming, and implementation assistance.
